I am quickly able to put people at ease with my approachable and empathic therapeutic style. I like to work collaboratively, which makes therapy an active process and enables people to identify and agree goals that they are motivated to work towards.
Once you have contacted me, we shall have an initial phone conversation to think briefly about why you are considering therapy and arrange a convenient appointment. Our first meeting will then be a 90 minute assessment appointment in which we will talk through some of the difficulties and concerns you may have. You will be asked questions in order to gain a better sense of your experiences. These will include questions around your day to day life, the impact of any difficulties you are experiencing and how you are currently managing. For children and teenagers it is often helpful to meet jointly initially to get a sense of everyone’s perspective. For parents, you will be asked some questions around your child’s early development and experiences. If your child feels able, we may spend some time alone to further understand their difficulties and experiences. By the end of the session, a developing psychological understanding will be shared with you and we can think together about a treatment plan. Following the assessment, an assessment report will be written up for you. Further sessions will be negotiated, but are typically held on a weekly basis and last approximately 50 minutes. Dependent on your goals, the number of recommended sessions may vary considerably, but will be discussed and reviewed on a regular basis. Most people find an average of 6 sessions very useful. |
