Following a phone conversation, I offer a 90 minute assessment session, during which we will talk through some of the difficulties and concerns you may have. I aim to gain an understanding of your difficulties, where they stem from, how they are triggered and what keeps the difficulties going. To help me develop a sense of your experiences, you will be asked questions around your day to day life, the impact of your difficulties and how you are currently managing. Through this understanding, we can work together to identify different ways of being, and how to feel less trapped in our cycles of thoughts and behaviours.
For children and teenagers it is often helpful to initially meet jointly with parents to get a sense of everyone’s perspective. Parents will be asked some questions around their child’s early development and experiences. If it feels manageable, we may spend some time alone to further understand difficulties and experiences. By the end of the session, a developing psychological understanding will be shared with you. We can then consider a treatment plan together and discuss therapeutic options. Following the assessment, an assessment report will be written for you. It is recommended that this is shared with your GP. |
